A native of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, Matthew Neff has served as the Adjunct Associate Professor of Trombone at George Mason University since 2003. Mr. Neff holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Penn State University, as well as a Master of Music from Catholic University of America. A strong advocate for music education, he has performed as guest artist/clinician at high schools and colleges throughout the country. Mr. Neff joined the US Navy Band Commodores as bass trombonist in October of 2009. Prior to his appointment with the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, Mr. Neff served as bass trombonist with the Concert/Ceremonial Band, a position he held since joining the Navy Band in 1992. He has performed as soloist on numerous occasions and served as bass trombonist with the Navy Band Brass Quintet from 2003-2009. In addition to Mr. Neff’s engagements with the US Navy Band, he has also performed with the National Symphony, the National Philharmonic, the Kennedy Center Ballet Orchestra, as well as other regional symphonies. As a composer/arranger, Mr. Neff has won several national competitions and has published works with Ensemble Publications. Matt, his wife Tricia, and their four daughters reside in Ashburn, Virginia.
